Medaille is expanding our safe house provision through the purchase if a new property, which will be opening its doors to offer safety and refuge to more survivors of modern slavery.
The opening of Medaille’s latest safe house, in the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth, comes 15 years after our founder and Life President, Sister Ann Teresa (SSJA), opened the first safe house in the same diocese.
Medaille Chief Executive Garry Smith said: “We are delighted to have completed our first purchase and to be going back to the roots of Medaille, where Sister Ann Teresa first made it her mission to do something about the injustice of modern slavery. Our new safe house will provide shelter and support to people whose lives have been changed by exploitation and we will work with them to help them rebuild their lives and move forward into independence and safety”.
This Lent, you can help us make our safe house a home. We are grateful for funding which provides the basics to give freedom and safety. But through your support, we can create comfortable, homely places where survivors of modern slavery can thrive.
A warm cosy bed, a comfortable place to sit, a kitchen to cook in, these are all things we take for granted, but for a victim of modern slavery all of these things will have been denied. You can help us make our new house a home for victims of modern slavery.
A Donation of just £10 could help pay for.
Kitchen equipment to enable victims of modern slavery to cook up a taste of home
New bedding to make victims feel cosy and safe
Items to make the communal area homelier, such as cushions and curtains to give victims a sense of belonging.
