It was an honour to be at the reception organised by the Plater Trust and to meet Cardinal Vincent Nichols. We are delighted to be the beneficiaries of an award which enables us to roll-out a project all about regeneration and new starts, themes we understand well at Medaille Trust. Through our national network of nine safe houses, we support victims of modern slavery to become survivors. This is work we couldn’t do without such generous donations like the one we received from the Plater Trust.
The award we have received will fund a project to develop the grounds of an old church and turn it into a garden and allotment area. The project is aimed specifically at male clients to encourage, support and educate them to grow fruit and vegetables. For clients who take part they will also enjoy cooking or learning to cook, with the support of staff, nutritious and healthy dishes. The project will also work in partnership with the local community and surplus food will be donated to support local food banks.
This is a project with tangible immediate benefits, but it will also provide longer term life-skills to clients and improve physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. We firmly believe that the project will support their journey to recovery and ultimately employability and help them to play a full and active part in their communities.
