Medaille Trust’s 20th anniversary Art Roadshow has been featured by the Caritas Social Action Network, highlighting the powerful role of creativity in helping survivors of modern slavery rebuild their lives and share their experiences on their own terms.
The feature explores how the roadshow is designed to centre survivor voices, challenge stereotypes around modern slavery and help the public connect with the people behind the statistics. For those taking part, creating and sharing their work can also be an important part of recovery, helping survivors express themselves and reclaim aspects of their identity that exploitation may have taken away.
As the roadshow travels to 20 locations across the UK, Medaille Trust is using art to challenge dehumanising narratives and encourage greater understanding, empathy and solidarity. The initiative demonstrates that survivors are not defined by their experiences of exploitation, but are individuals with their own talents, aspirations and hopes for the future.
