Nuncio Meets with Modern Slavery and Trafficking Survivors

Medaille Trust Featured in Independent Catholic News

Medaille Trust was deeply honored to host Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, the Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, during his recent visit to one of our safe houses. This visit took place as part of his comprehensive tour of various social action initiatives throughout the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

During his time at the safe house, Archbishop Maury engaged in meaningful conversations with survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking who are receiving vital support from Medaille Trust. He listened intently to their personal stories, gaining insights into the myriad challenges they encounter in the UK as they strive for recognition, access to essential support services, and a path towards rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of their traumatic experiences.

The visit also served as a significant platform to emphasize the invaluable contributions made by Catholic volunteers and various projects that work in collaboration with survivors. Archbishop Maury highlighted the critical importance of providing safe accommodation and specialized, long-term support tailored to the unique needs of each survivor.

At Medaille Trust, our mission is to assist over 700 survivors annually through an extensive network of safe houses and community-based projects that offer not only shelter but also holistic support. In addition to direct survivor assistance, our work encompasses raising awareness about modern slavery, prevention initiatives, and facilitating survivors' engagement with the police and the justice system to ensure their rights are recognized and upheld.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Archbishop Maury for dedicating his time to meet with survivors and for his commitment to understanding their experiences. We also wish to thank Independent Catholic News for covering this important visit, which plays a crucial role in raising awareness about the urgent issues of modern slavery and human trafficking.
